Every year, a week following the relaxation of Christmas, hundreds of thousands pour out to the Jackson Brewery to welcome in another year of living and partying in New Orleans.
Gumbo has been called the greatest contribution of Louisiana kitchens to American cuisine. This zesty, multi-layered concoction could only come from a state as colorful and full of history as Louisiana! "A little bit of this and a little bit of that," goes into every good gumbo and it pretty much sums up the history of Louisiana as well. The region was first claimed for Spain in 1541 by Hernando de Soto and no fewer than ten flags would govern Louisiana before the fifteen stars and stripes would forever fly over Baton Rouge, the state capital.

The Bayou Classic is football matchup held held yearly on the last Saturday in November at the Louisiana Superdome between the Southern University Jaguars and the Grambling State University Tigers.
The rivalry between the schools dates back to 1974, when the first Bayou Classic was held in New Orleans' Tulane Stadium. But its not just the players battling it out on the field- it's the marching bands too in the "Battle of the Bands". This part of the event is held the night before the football game.
Get your tickets early as they tend to sell out quick.
