Horry County Museum Quilt Gala

The Horry County Museum hosted the first annual quilt gala in 1994 on the lawn of the old County Courthouse with 40 beautiful quilts waving in the breeze.

The quilt Gala is not a judged or juried show, anyone can participate by entering a quilt. Applications to enter a quilt can be obtained at the Museum, through the mail, or the Museum’s website. Registration for the quilts is held at the Museum two weeks prior to the Gala. (All quilts are fully insured and secured while in our possession.)

Mardi Gras on the Grand Strand

National Shag Dance Competition

Beach Blanket Bingo may have faded away, but Myrtle Beach still celebrates the good old days with its yearly Shag Dance Contest. Now, you might not see Annette Funicello or even Frankie Avalon, but they will be here in spirit - dancing the night away!

The National Shag Dance Competition is more than just dancing, though. Shag dancing has developed an extremely loyal band of followers, which grows larger as the years go by. Shag dancing attracts a particular type of person, those who are free-spirited and generous.

SOS Winter Classic

Join the Society of Stranders at the annual Mid-Winter Shag Classic on the Ocean Drive section of North Myrtle Beach, where the Shag originated decades ago.

The society was formed back in 1980 and is widely recognized for its yearly adult shagging parties that include the Mid-Winter Classic among others. This event started as a small reunion of friends and is now attended by 12,000+ members, they must be doing something right!
