The Emerald Coast Poker Run, the largest poker run in the United States, is ECF’s flagship event and ECF’s primary fundraiser.
The Emerald Coast Poker Run has been voted “the best Poker Run in the United States” by Power Boat Magazine for two years in a row (April 2004/2005 Issues). The event brings together locals as well as recreational boaters from all over the country to boat across Northwest Florida’s emerald green waters.
Christmas Boat Parade courtesy of the largest charter fleet in Florida. A sparkling procession of festively bedecked boats parade through Destin harbor as locals and visitors wave merrily from beaches, harbors, bridges, decks and docks.
The Destin harbor will be dancing in holiday lights and cheer as the Holiday on the Harbor celebration runs through the month of December, with the Destin Harbor Boat Parade on Sunday, December 9.
Previous year's Holiday on the Harbor were presented by EmeraldCoast.com and The Destin Log and were sponsored by AmTrust Mortgage Corporation; Beach TV; Destin Trophy, Inc.; Harrison Contracting Company; Legendary, Inc.; Mix 103; Wave 102; and Wilson-Miller.
Right down the road from the small fishing village of Destin, is breathtakingly beautiful Okaloosa Island. Once a year, this long, finger-shaped island, well known for its wonderful beaches and relaxing atmosphere, hosts a very unique race.
As the folks on the island see their summer tourist season coming to an end and Fall quickly approaching, hundreds of sailors gather at the small seaside town. They share one goal... to be the quickest... or the most colorful... or the happiest… or simply to be one of the lucky sailors who successfully circumnavigate the island.
Citizen Okaloosa Environmental Council members organize a spring and fall beach cleanup each year. The Council also maintains an Adopt-A-County Road and Adopt-A-Dune litter control program. Since 1994, Council volunteers donate their time and efforts to Okaloosa Aqualab in monthly sampling of the water quality at 22-sites along Choctawhatchee Bay, with analysis by FDEP. A volunteer Okaloosa Offshore Red Tide water monitoring program tests offshore Gulf waters at the request and direction of the Florida Marine Research Institute.
