Jazz-By-the Bay Festival
Panama City Beach, FL -Here's what's in store for visitors to the 2008 Jazz-By-the Bay Festival in Panama City on Oct. 17th and 18th.: a multi-instrumentalist jazz icon, whose career spans a half century; a gifted Las Vegas jazz vocalist; a trumpet virtuoso acclaimed for his Louis Armstrong tributes; a local piano and vocal duo singing and playing music of the great American songbook, an exciting Latin jazz group, a swinging college jazz band, and a spirited Dixieland band playing between sets.

Music will begin on Friday at 6:00 p.m. from the pavilion in Oaks-By-the-Bay Park. The Park is located at the foot of Beck Ave. next to the St. Andrews Marina. Food, beverage and festival concessions will be located on site. The festival is free and open to the public. Kicking off the festival Friday night will be the Troy State University Jazz Band.
Heading the two-day program will be five-time Grammy nominee, instrumentalist Ira Sullivan. Sullivan is widely recorded and has appeared as a guest soloist with some of the best bands in recent decades. This is a return visit for Sullivan who was the headliner at the 2006 Jazz-By-the-Bay Festival. He will appear on both Friday and Saturday.
Saturday's program, which begins at 1 p.m., will include trumpeter Longinue Parson and his Quartet, the Latin sounds of the Stephanie Pettis "Rio," ensemble and the classic jazz of the the Amanda Matthews Quintet.
Also on Saturday, Dr. Muffalotta and his Basin Street Stompers will entertain on the festival grounds between sets.
As has been a Jazz-By-the-Bay custom, the music will continue in a post festival jam session at the adjacent Granite Cafe after the last festival set.
