Greetings Traveler, WOW! 2007 is off to a very busy start! TripSmarter.Com and Tourist Network have been working hard since the holidays - finding new and exciting ways to deliver more of the information you want to know about your favorite destinations. Plus, there's so much to see and do this time of year in the Southeast! First, we're all very proud to announce that Tourist Network has a great new show! Destination Real Estate takes you on an insiders' tour of Dream Homes in Dream Locations. From Key West to Colorado, from the shores of Lake Tahoe to the Carolina Coast, Destination Real Estate is for those who prefer to invest in quality of LIFE! Take a look at the online archived videos and let us know what you think! Apparently, you just can’t keep a good party down in New Orleans! Mardi Gras 2007 begins in just a few short days. Only two years after that notorious storm hit, New Orleans is primed, painted and prepared to play host to the "World's Biggest Party"! We've got the Parade Schedule and all your Mardi Gras updates in our Mardi Gras 2007 section! Students from all over the world are preparing for a week of no school and non-stop parties! Spring Break 2007 is just around the corner and Panama City Beach is gearing up for 8 weeks of fun and sun with more than 100,000 college and highschool students. What happens in PCB stays in PCB! Check our Spring Break section for college break dates, concerts, forums, maps, live cams, photos, videos and more! Key West will also have it's share of students visiting during Spring Break... but, the Key West Spring Break is a little more laid-back than Spring Break in the more famous (or infamous!) destinations. It's also high season (no pun intended) in Key West, with thousands of visitors of all ages and walks of life visiting throughout the winter months (it's hard to call it "winter" when temps really don't dip below 70!). To celebrate the high season, we've got new episodes of Key West Chefs, featuring 915, Square One, Mangia Mangia, Alice's and more! Margit Bisztray also discusses some of her favorite neighborhood restaurants in the latest episode of Margit's Top Five. And, last but, not least, TripSmarter.Com is in the midst of a huge redesign. We're taking all the new functionality we've added in the past year or so, adding in a few more features and wrapping it all up in a nice, easy-to-use design that is sure to make lots of people happy! We'll let everyone know when the new design is ready to go! By Wayne Gentry, Meteorologist Well, evidently, it's not just me, and it's not just the Southeastern part of the country. The numbers are in and it's official....The United States recorded its warmest year ever in 2006, according to the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). The average annual temperature for the country was 55 degrees F, 2.2 degrees F above the 20th century mean. At the tail end of the year, it appeared that 2006 would come in third overall, but December ended up being the warmest ever for New England, 4th warmest for the country as a whole (1939, 1957, and 1933 were warmer). Well it's one thing being able to get the weather right looking backward...What's going to happen next? Click to read more! ![]() HOW I PICK A TOP FIVE By Margit Bisztray, Food Critic Hello all. Have you ever wondered how I pick a Top Five restaurant? Me too! No, just kidding. But I thought in this newsletter I’d try to explain how I go about writing a Top Five show. Usually, though not always, it begins with one restaurant I really want to feature. This will come about because I go somewhere and have an excellent experience: my kind of dining experience. The décor or setting will grab me - beautiful lighting, a view, chairs I want to take home - and the service will make me glad I came there, and the menu will have something on it I’m curious to try. It’s like when you meet someone you know you want to become better friends with, or someone you like more-than-friends. You instantly have their best interests in mind. If I like a restaurant, I want to help them by telling people to go there. At any restaurant I recommend, I have at least one dish it’s worth going there just for the sake of having...
